Grant Give Back - Food & Supply Drive

As part of our commitment to community service, we're collecting items to aid those affected by the recent floods in Hazard, Kentucky. Your contributions of non-perishable food items, toiletries, and essential supplies will make a meaningful difference in the lives of those still grappling with the aftermath of the devastating floods.

Staff and students from Grant Career Center are heading to Hazard, Kentucky to help restore a home after flooding.

The catastrophic flooding that swept through Hazard, Kentucky in 2022, left numerous families displaced and many homes severely damaged. But thanks to

the efforts of Grant Career Center, one family will be one step closer to returning home. The trip is planned for April 30th - May 3rd.

The trip to Hazard, KY is part of Grant Career Center's ongoing effort to give back to the community and offer hands-on learning opportunities that may connect students to the skills they have learned in their programs.

Grant Career Center's Elizabeth Abbott Chapter of the National Technical Honor Society recently held its prestigious induction ceremony, welcoming 32 exceptional students into its ranks on Thursday, March 7th, 2024. This event marked a significant milestone for both the inductees and the institution, celebrating academic excellence, leadership, and commitment to technical education.

The National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) is renowned for recognizing outstanding achievement in career and technical education. Its mission is to honor the achievements of top CTE students, provide scholarships, and cultivate excellence in today's highly competitive workforce. Being inducted into the NTHS is a testament to a student's dedication, hard work, and passion for their chosen field.

The ceremony at Grant Career Center was a momentous occasion, attended by faculty, staff, students, and proud family members. Each inductee was recognized for their academic prowess, leadership qualities, community service, and dedication to their respective technical fields. GRANT CAREER CENTER RECEIVES $2.43 MILLION OHIO CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION EQUIPMENT GRANT

Grant Career Center is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a $2.43 million grant from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce. The Career Technical Education Equipment Grant is a significant boost for the Career Center, allowing for the enhancement and expansion of several programs aimed at preparing students for careers in high-tech, in-demand fields.

The funds will be used for state-of-the-art equipment in the Construction Technology, Engineering, Allied Health, Information Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, and Metal Fabrication programs. These programs align with the workforce needs in the Southwest Ohio region, Ohio's Top Jobs List, and the Innovative Workforce Incentive Program administered by the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation, ensuring that students receive training in areas that are essential for the state's economic growth and development. Grant Career Center’s funding application, which was selected through a competitive process, included letters of support from 17 business and industry partners. The Career Center extends its heartfelt gratitude to HealthSource of Ohio, Mercy Health, University of Cincinnati, John R. Grant Career Center Creates Tool Scholarship in Memory of Chad Graybill

Our hearts have been heavy as we grieve the sudden and tragic loss of our esteemed placement coordinator, Chad Graybill. For over two decades, Chad was a cornerstone of the Grant Career Center community, from carpentry lab instructor to placement coordinator.

As we grapple with this profound loss, we encourage you to reflect on Chad's unwavering dedication to his students and the career tech community. In his memory, we will carry forward the lessons he taught us: perseverance, kindness, and the importance of seizing every opportunity. Chad believed in the potential of every student, and we are committed to upholding that belief.

To honor Chad's legacy and support our students in pursuing their dreams, we are establishing the Chad Graybill Memorial Tool Scholarship. This scholarship will provide financial assistance to students pursuing careers in skilled trades, helping them acquire the tools and equipment necessary for their education and future careers.

2024 Completion Ceremony Details

In order for the graduates to have as many family members as possible at the completion ceremony, we are having two ceremonies on the evening of May 17, 2024. We did not want to limit the number of people that could attend so we elected to have two ceremonies, so no tickets will be required.

The ceremony should take about 50 minutes. Guests coming for the 7:15 pm ceremony will be allowed entry once all other guests from the previous ceremony have exited the gym. Please plan on entering after 6:30pm.

Early Childhood Education students travelled to Capital University this week for the Educators Rising conference and competitions. Bianca Arnett and Anyssa Ward placed 5th overall in Children's Literature K-3 and Sarah Scanlan and Emma Black placed in the top 10 in the Researching Learning Challenges Competition. Both wins qualified for the National Competition. Vivian Watson and Keira Sedgwick both earned a bronze placing in their respective Project Visual contests. Also, the Grant Career Center Educators Rising Chapter also earned an Honors Chapter Award.

Grant Career Center Excels at SkillsUSA Regional Competition

The Grant Career Center is celebrating impressive victories following the recent SkillsUSA Regional Competition, where our talented students showcased their skills and expertise in various fields.

Damien Hastings, a standout participant in Information Technology Services, demonstrated remarkable proficiency, securing second place in his category. Damien's exceptional performance has earned him a well-deserved spot in the upcoming state competition, where he will continue to represent Grant Career Center with pride and determination.

Additionally, the Crime Scene Investigation Team, comprising Allie Gorman, Nick Winchenbach, and Chloe Vining showcased their exceptional teamwork and investigative abilities, clinching the bronze medal at the regional competition. Their dedication and attention to detail have rightfully earned them a place in the highly anticipated state competition, where they will undoubtedly continue to impress with their skills and dedication.

Not to be outdone, the Welding Fabrication team comprised of Joe Brueggemann, Austin Sipple, and Jake Winter delivered an outstanding performance, claiming the top spot in their category at the SkillsUSA Regionals. Their precision, craftsmanship, and collaborative efforts propelled them to first place, securing their advancement to the state-level competition.

These accomplishments are a testament to the hard work, dedication, and talent of the students at Grant Career Center. Grant Career Center FFA Chapter: Excelling in State-Level Competitions

The Grant Career Center FFA Chapter has been making waves this year with a stellar performance in district competitions, setting the stage for an exciting journey to the state-level competitions. With 22 students participating in 12 district competitions, our FFA members have showcased their dedication, skills, and passion for agriculture.

As we gear up for the state-level competitions in Columbus, Ohio, this weekend, our FFA members are ready to take on the challenge in three key categories: general livestock, equine management, and agronomy. These competitions not only test their knowledge and expertise but also provide invaluable hands-on experience in their respective fields.

We are proud to announce some impressive state placings achieved by our FFA members so far:

  • Isabella Poe secured 9th place in Aquarium Management, demonstrating her proficiency and commitment to aquatic science and management.

  • In Ag. Communications, Shelby Cornwell, Lance Cornwell, Chloee Burk, and Kylie Hinton clinched the 10th position, showcasing their communication skills and knowledge of agricultural issues.

  • Lance Cornwell and Zan Weiss showcased their mechanical prowess, earning 9th place in Ag. Mechanical Diagnostics. Their expertise in diagnosing and solving mechanical issues highlights their dedication to agricultural machinery and technology.

The Grant Career Center Esports Super Smash Brothers Team recently demonstrated their gaming prowess as they secured their spot in the Southwest District Regionals, held on March 16-17 at the prestigious University of Cincinnati. While the team didn't advance beyond the regional competition, their achievements and efforts are commendable, and they have every reason to hold their heads high.

Students from Grant Career Center demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication at the recent FCCLA Regional Competition held at Mid East Career Center in Zanesville, Ohio. Competing against peers from across the region, Grant Career Center's FCCLA chapter showcased their skills and expertise in various categories, earning commendable accolades.

One of the highlights of the competition was Bristol Baudendistel's remarkable performance in Career Investigation, where she secured the coveted Gold medal with an impressive score of 90.33. Baudendistel's achievement reflects her commitment to in-depth research and analysis, setting a high standard for excellence within the chapter.

In the Event Management category, Matthew Burress demonstrated exceptional proficiency, earning a Silver medal with an impressive score of 88.33. Burress's adeptness in planning and executing events showcased his potential for success in the field of event management and organizational leadership.

Gabrielle Proctor and Clayton Hency also showcased their entrepreneurial prowess, earning Silver medals in Entrepreneurship with a score of 85.33. Their innovative ideas and business acumen were evident, highlighting their potential to thrive in the competitive world of entrepreneurship and innovation.

Kyra Caudill and Alex Gunasekera's dedication to culinary excellence earned them a Bronze medal in Food Innovations, with a commendable score of 68.66. Their creativity and passion for culinary arts were evident in their presentation, showcasing their potential to excel in the culinary industry.

Similarly, Keith Hounshell and Rich Moeckel's efforts in Sports Nutrition were recognized with a Bronze medal, emphasizing the importance of nutrition in athletic performance.
